New Delhi, Aug 3 (UNI) A petition challenging the Patna High Court's verdict, which upheld the caste-based survey being conducted by the Bihar government, was moved in the Supreme Court on Thursday.

The appeal was filed by Akhilesh Kumar demanding setting aside of the Patna High Court's judgement.

"The appeal has been filed before the Apex Court, by Akhilesh Kumar in the case. He wants a stay on the Patna High Court verdict," a lawyer connected to the case said.

The Petitioner Kumar has pleaded that the Patna High Court's verdict should he immediately stayed, and as a result of which, a stay on the caste based survey would be automatically in force.

There are three more appeals filed in the Supreme Court in the same matter.

The Bihar government had already filed a caveat in the Supreme Court, anticipating that an appeal may be filed in the case.

Terming it “perfectly valid,” the Patna High Court on August 1 had upheld the caste based survey being conducted by the Bihar government.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran and Justice Partha Sarthy, dismissed the batch of petitions challenging the survey. UNI SM GNK SSP
